How to use this tool

  • Enter Literal argument or choose UTF-8 argument file. File input takes precedence and preserves CRLF/CR/BOM; pasted textarea line endings normalize to LF.
  • Select Quote POSIX-sh argument. Empty input is valid and becomes two single quotes.
  • Select Download result for quoted-argument.txt. The file contains exactly the argument serialization with no added newline.

Examples

a'b becomes 'a'\''b'. Text such as $HOME or backticks remains literal data inside the quoted argument.

Limitations

  • At most1,048,576 UTF-16 units and 1 MiB UTF-8 input,5 MiB output and 30 seconds. NUL, unpaired surrogates and malformed UTF-8 files fail.
  • This quotes one POSIX-sh argument only, not a full command, PowerShell/cmd dialect or nested transport string. No user text is executed.
  • Quoting does not prevent a receiving command from treating a leading dash as an option. No broad shell-safety certification is claimed.
