Browser only
Runs locally in your browser. Your files, pasted content and generated output are not uploaded. Reset clears this tool’s working data.
This tool needs JavaScript. If it does not load, refresh the page and try again.
How to use this tool
- Choose one JPG, PNG or static WebP image within the displayed limits.
- Set quality and choose whether to retain transparency or flatten it onto white.
- Choose Encode HEIC. The first run downloads and verifies the local encoder; Cancel stops loading and processing.
- Review the dimensions, actual size change and output report, then download image.heic. Reset clears the file and results.
Examples
Convert a transparent PNG to HEIC at quality 80 while retaining its transparency, or flatten it onto white for an opaque image.
Limitations
- One still image up to 20 MiB, 4 million pixels and 8,192 pixels per side. Animated PNG/WebP and other image formats are rejected. Output up to 32 MiB; the deadline is 120 seconds and native linear memory is capped at 512 MiB.
- Output is lossy 8-bit sRGB with 4:2:0 color detail. Quality 100 does not guarantee lossless pixels. Retained alpha may differ from source values; browser color conversion and alpha rounding can also change pixels.
- Browser image orientation and color conversion are applied. Source EXIF, XMP, ICC profiles, HDR gain maps and auxiliary images are not copied. This is not an HDR preservation tool.
- HEIC may be larger than the source and is not supported by every viewer or browser. The report shows actual size change; no browser HEIC preview is assumed.
- Advanced users can replace the native encoder with a locally rebuilt ABI-compatible WASM. Complete source, build instructions, relinking archives and license notices are linked beside the tool.
