Image Compressor

Compress to a measured JPEG or WebP byte target, or choose quality and maximum width.

PNG, JPEG, static WEBP, BMP, GIF first frame, static SVG shapes

JPG / WEBP

Browser only

Runs locally in your browser. Your files, pasted content and generated output are not uploaded. Reset clears this tool’s working data.

This tool needs JavaScript. If it does not load, refresh the page and try again.

How to use this tool

  • Choose a supported local image.
  • Choose quality and maximum width, or select Fit a target file size and enter 1–20,000 KB (1 KB = 1,000 bytes).
  • Target mode keeps the original dimensions by default. Enable Allow smaller dimensions only if reducing the image dimensions is acceptable.
  • Choose Process image, inspect the actual output size and dimensions, then download. A target that cannot be reached within local limits produces an error without an oversized download.
  • Reset clears input, settings and output. Changing a setting invalidates the old result.

Examples

Apply image compressor to a local photo or icon and inspect the result.

Limitations

  • Processing is local; input and output are not uploaded.
  • 20 MiB and 24 megapixels per image; at most 16,384 pixels per side. SVG input is limited to 2 MiB.
  • Animated WebP and PNG are not supported. GIF uses the first frame. SVG supports a strict self-contained static-shape subset; text/fonts, CSS, external resources and active content are rejected.
  • Stored pixel orientation is used: EXIF orientation is not applied. Browser color decoding and native encoding can vary.
  • Manual quality mode can produce a larger file. Its maximum width only downscales; compare actual bytes before downloading.
  • Target mode checks the actual encoded size and supplies only results at or below the requested decimal-KB limit. JPEG and WebP encoding is lossy; JPEG flattens transparency onto the selected background.
  • The bounded search tests at most 32 encodes and 384 million combined encoded pixels, with a 60-second deadline checked between asynchronous browser encodes. The chosen quality is the highest successful tested setting, not an exhaustive optimum. An individual native encode cannot be interrupted, but Cancel and Reset discard its result.
  • Dimensions shrink only with explicit permission, with aspect ratio derived from the original image and rounded to integer pixels. Very small targets may be unreachable; increase the target or allow smaller dimensions.
