DOCX section splitter

Inspect explicit Word sections and save selected sections as separate DOCX files locally.

DOCX

DOCX, ZIP, JSON

Browser only

Runs locally in your browser. Your files, pasted content and generated output are not uploaded. Reset clears this tool’s working data.

This tool needs JavaScript. If it does not load, refresh the page and try again.

How to use this tool

  • Choose one local DOCX file and use Inspect sections to read its explicit section order.
  • Choose Split selected sections and enter all, one section number, or a selection such as 1,3-5.
  • Download the resulting DOCX or ZIP. Check the report and open the document to review numbering and pagination.
  • Cancel or Reset terminates processing and clears the result.

Examples

Split a two-section report with a portrait introduction and a landscape table into two DOCX files with their inherited headers preserved.

Limitations

  • Sections are explicit OOXML section boundaries, not rendered pages. Continuous sections reflow when opened separately. List numbering and pagination may restart or change; there is no rendered-page split or layout-fidelity promise.
  • 20 MiB compressed input; 1,000 ZIP entries; 16 MiB per entry; 64 MiB expanded package; 8 MiB per XML part and 16 MiB combined XML; 200,000 nodes per part and 400,000 combined nodes; 64 nesting levels; 50 sections; 60-second worker deadline.
  • Combined selected packages are limited to 64 MiB expanded and 32 MiB compressed, with a 64 MiB final ZIP limit. Choose fewer sections if repeated shared resources exceed these limits.
  • Only ordinary UTF-8, transitional DOCX packages with a final body sectPr are supported. Encrypted, macro-enabled and signed documents are rejected.
  • Fields, bookmarks/ranges, footnotes/endnotes, comments, tracked changes, content controls, embedded objects, charts, alternate content and external relationships are rejected. Nothing is fetched, executed or uploaded.
  • Shared style, numbering, settings, font resources and document properties remain. Unreferenced package parts, custom XML data and thumbnails are omitted. This is not redaction or metadata removal.
  • Supported existing passive PNG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, WMF and EMF image parts are copied unchanged, including their metadata. No image or font rendering occurs in this tool.
