How to use this tool
- Choose a supported animation with at least two frames.
- Select AVIF output for GIF, APNG or WebP input; an AVIF sequence can use any output format.
- Choose quality and, for AVIF, lossless or lossy encoding and speed.
- Convert animation. Review the frame/timing report and download. Preview shows the first frame only. Cancel stops the worker; Reset clears inputs and output.
Examples
Convert a three-frame transparent APNG with 40, 90 and 120 ms delays to lossless animated AVIF while preserving its three total plays.
Limitations
- Input 20 MiB; output 40 MiB; 2–300 frames; 4,096 pixels per side, 4 million pixels per frame and 20 million total canvas pixels; one cycle up to five minutes. Native heap 512 MiB; download/worker deadline 120 seconds.
- AVIF input supports 8-bit sRGB or unspecified color, one color track and optional matching alpha. ICC profiles, HDR, geometric transforms, audio tracks, composition offsets, partial-cycle edits, conflicting alpha timing and unsupported bitstreams reject. Unspecified color is treated as sRGB. Source metadata and auxiliary images are not copied.
- AVIF lossless preserves decoded RGBA pixels, not compressed source bytes. WebP input relies on browser ImageDecoder and may have color/alpha rounding. Supported APNG uses non-interlaced 1–8-bit grayscale/palette or 8-bit RGB/RGBA. Native color conversion and unpremultiplication can differ by one RGB level from other decoders.
- Zero delays become 100 ms. Cumulative frame boundaries round to AVIF 0.001 ms, GIF 10 ms and APNG/WebP 1 ms. Collapsed frames reject; viewers may clamp short delays. AVIF missing loop information becomes one explicitly reported total play.
- GIF uses palette colors and binary alpha at threshold 128. WebP is lossy even at quality 100. GIF supports up to 65,536 total plays; WebP 65,535; AVIF 2,147,483,648; APNG 4,294,967,295. Zero means forever.
- Source metadata is omitted; AVIF container timestamps use fixed value 1. Results may be larger than input. The preview shows only the first composited frame.
